October PTO minutes

Survey Results
  • Results from the PTO survey were examined and discussed
  • Mrs. Whitten will be available for CORI checks on October 21st from 5-6 PM (during the Otis Spunkmeyer cookie pickup)
Notes from Superintendent meeting
  • Bay State Textiles has collection boxes outside Northborough and Southborough schools. They are hosting a contest through 1/1/16. First, second, and third place prizes will be $350, $275, and $175, respectively, to be donated to the winning schools. In addition, the PTO receives a $100 rebate per ton of textiles collected.   • A later start time for high school has been proposed and will receive further consideration
  • Treasurer gave a report on the current PTO budget
Enrichment Programs
  • iRobot gave a school presentation in October
Environmental Club
  • Hosted a costume  exchange; there were many donations (thank you!) and everything that is left over will be donated to FIT
  • Began juice pouch and writing instrument recycling
  • Exploring a possible joint endeavor with Southwick Zoo to make Zeh a model example for its environmental efforts
Teacher Grants
  • Ms. Makara, Band instructor: purchase of SmartMusic software, $98 (vote: yes)
  • Second grade teachers: postage for Flat Stanley project, $150, estimate (vote: yes)
  • Sue Berger, school nurse: purchase of Emergency Bags for building, $194 (vote: yes)
  • Mr. Phelps: supplement funds for Great East Music Festival for 5th grade, $600 (vote: yes)
Spirit Shop
  • Flash sale on T-shirts will be held at the beginning of November
  • Dismissal note pads are back in the shop, $3/ea

September PTO minutes


    • 2015-16 Volunteer Handbook was passed out
    • Reviewed expectations for volunteers
    • Discussed volunteer opportunities
    • Reminders to update CORI screening, if necessary

2015-16 PTO budget

    • Kathleen Brouillard, Treasurer, gave a report on the upcoming budget and addressed any questions regarding the report.

Enrichment Programs

    • Stacy Lin discussed inviting the African Dance program to return, as well as expanding the program to a 3 day residency. This would include integrations with students’ art and gym classes.
    • iRobot will give a free robotics presentation (replacing the FIRST presentation from previous years) on October 9th.

Environmental Club

    • Activities for the school Environmental Club (grades 3-5) were presented by Selvi Oyola, including the upcoming Halloween costume exchange.
